Fun Fact
- It is said that raspberries were originally white in color. During picking berries for Jupiter, the nymph Ida pricked her finger, and raspberries have since been tinged red.
- Thus, Rubus idaeus, the botanical name of the raspberry, makes more sense. Rubus means “red,” and idaeus means “belonging to Ida.”
Historical Fact
- According to some sources, sorbet dates back as far as 3000 B.C. Asian cultures discovered the roots of sorbet in the form of crushed ice and flavorings.
- The first recipe for sorbetto was written down by Antonio Latini (1642–1692), a Spanish viceroy working in Naples.
Nutrition Fact
- Besides being high in carotenoids and antioxidants, raspberry sorbet is also rich in fiber and vitamins.
- Sorbet is free of fat and rich in the health benefits of fresh fruits when compared to creamy ice creams or rich desserts.
