Fun Fact
  1. Despite it's French fame, the croissant actually hails from Vienna, Austria. It was inspired by the Austrian 'kipferl', a crescent-shaped pastry.
  2. In 2013, a bakery in Australia set the Guinness World Record for the largest croissant ever made. This gargantuan pastry weighed over 320 kilograms (about 705 pounds)! It took hours to bake and was devoured by delighted onlookers. Talk about a buttery behemoth!
Historical Fact
  1. Legend has it that in the late 18th century, Marie Antoinette, known for her love of luxury, introduced the 'kipferl' to the French court. She missed these Viennese pastries so much that she brought her own baker to recreate them in Versailles. And so, the croissant was born into French culinary royalty!
  2. The croissant's distinctive crescent shape is not just for show - it has historical significance. During the Ottoman Empire's siege of Vienna in 1683, bakers working underground heard the enemy tunneling beneath the city. To alert the defenders, they baked crescent-shaped pastries, symbolizing the Ottoman emblem. This clever act helped save the city, and the croissant became a symbol of victory and freedom.
Nutrition Fact
  1. Croissants contribute small amounts of vitamins and minerals like iron and riboflavin. They're like a tiny treasure trove of nutrients in a flaky package.
  2. Surprisingly, croissants provide about 5 grams of protein per serving. That's enough to give your muscles a little morning boost.
