Make a café-style cup of pumpkin goodness right at home. This iconic drink is delicious, and every sip feels like a hug. Find out how to make a spiced pumpkin latte in 10 minutes.

List of ingredients:

  • Strong coffee - ½ cup or two shots of espresso
  • Hot milk - 1 cup (Use any milk of your choice, dairy or non-dairy)
  • Pumpkin purée - 2 tablespoons
  • Pumpkin spice mix - ½ teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract - ½ teaspoon
  • Granulated sugar or honey/maple syrup - according to your taste 
  • A pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a large mug, pour and mix the coffee, pumpkin purée, sugar, pumpkin spice, vanilla extract, and salt. 
  2. Use a frother or a whisk to froth up your milk. 
  3. Add the milk to the mug with the coffee. 
  4. You can serve your pumpkin spiced latte as it is or top it with some whipped cream and a dash of the pumpkin spice mix. 

Chef Tip: If you can’t get a hold of pumpkin spice, use a combination of ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ginger powder, and a pinch each of nutmeg, allspice & clove. 

Bonus tip: You can also make an iced version of your pumpkin spiced latte. Just add all your ingredients, cold, to a blender and blend away!

• Pumpkin spice latte almost didn’t happen!! When the coffee gurus and the execs at Starbucks were testing the fall drink ideas ten years ago, pumpkin spice latte quickly fell into behind other obvious flavours like chocolate caramel and cinnamon spice.  But Peter Dukes, the espresso brand manager for the coffee cant, knew that the drink was a winner.

Historical Fact

• Starbucks started developing the Pumpkin Spice Latte in January 2003 following the successful introduction of winter seasonal drinks such as peppermint mocha and eggnog latte.

• According to Starbucks lore, all the concerned personnel gathered together and literally ate pumpkin pie while drinking espresso. While they did so, they attempted to figure out which elements of the baked good played best with the espresso. They ultimately decided to focus on two main components: pumpkin and spice.
