  1. Tell us about your journey into the world of music?

People joke that I came out of my mother’s womb singing LOL. I come from a long-line of music lovers and I think at this point, it’s in our blood. But that one moment when I realised singing is the love of my life is when I was 17 and a guy really broke my heart. I know, it’s a little too young to get your heart broken but when you’re exposed to the glam world with access to everything at a young age, you just grow up in a jiffy. So, this guy really got to me when he started seeing another girl, and I couldn’t think of anything else to do other than write a song about him. So, that’s what inspired my first single “Have fun with my leftovers”. On that note, let’s go stream that song again!

2. How do you deal with comments of nepotism?

I get a lot of those, and I totally own up to the fact that I had it a lot easier than some of the others who are in the industry. My very first song got its distribution in UMG while most starters upload their songs on YouTube and hope to be discovered. So, yes I am privileged. And no, I’m not going to let that define me. You might get an easy entry when you’re a star kid, but you’ll be relevant only if your music is good. It’s as simple as that. So, I am still here giving interviews after interviews because people stream my music.

3. Apart from your music, you’re also known for your fashion. What do you got to say about that?

It takes a village to put together a single look, let me just clarify. So, all these unattainable beauty standards you see on Instagram – it’s the hard work of three makeup artists, professional hair stylists, multiple fashion designers and let’s not forget the talented photographers. I am a musician, and I’m only good at that. The total credit for my looks goes to my awesome team, who I am incredibly thankful for.

4. What’s the downside to being a popstar?

Lack of freedom. Let me give a disclaimer before I start elaborating, I am very thankful for the life I have and I don’t want to sound like a cry baby. But imagine having all the money you’d need, yet you can’t go to the cinema with your buddies and goof around without the whole world critiquing everything you do, wear, say and even what you don’t say. Now, you’ll just throw the fact in my face that I have a home theatre, but that’s not the point. I didn’t have a normal childhood, and sometimes I wonder, what that’s like. *sigh*

5. Let’s finally talk about why you’re here today. Your new album “Bon Appetit”?

Ah, yes of course. That’s my youngest baby. In the literal sense, Bon Appetit means enjoy what you’re eating, which is why I chose Star Chef 2 to host the premiere of the album. But in a metaphorical sense, it’s about living every moment to the fullest and making the best out of it. Let go of things you can’t control, change the things that you don’t like, be the narrator of your own life… and just enjoy what’s on your plate. Put your heart into driving your life the way you want, the universe take care of the rest. So, your life is a full kitchen and the dish is the life choices you make, so make sure you have a bon appetit.
